Rob Leggat is an accomplished senior executive and with more than 30 years of success in both public and corporate advocacy.
Rob was the Senior Vice President for Goddard Gunster Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., a role he held from 2010 until July 2017. Rob held vice president positions with Walmart and General Motors. As the leader of both firm’s international corporate affairs team, he advocated a wide range of management issues including intellectual property rights, new markets, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate responsibility. An expert in crisis management, he has tackled issues ranging from product recalls to layoffs, labor disputes, bomb threats, kidnappings, policy changes and inaccurate media coverage.
He teaches courses in all aspects of Issue Advocacy including Media Strategy. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Georgetown and George Washington University. Rob has been recognized for PR excellence with five Chairman’s Honors Awards and PSRA’s Top International Award and is regularly invited as a guest speaker for conferences and seminars. He has been published in Congressional Quarterly and Roll Call magazines and ghostwritten numerous articles for clients. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with an MBA in International Business in 1992, and received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Rhetoric and Mass Communications Studies from Butler University’s College of Business Administration in 1986. He served as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy from 1978-1986.
